Professional Cargo Repositioning and Transfer Services
Shifted, unstable or damaged cargo can make a commercial vehicle unsafe to move and prevent a driver from completing a delivery. Goch & Sons Towing provides professional load shift correction and cargo transfer services for semi-trucks, tractor-trailers, flatbeds and other commercial vehicles throughout Detroit, Downriver and Southeast Michigan.
Our team uses rotators, forklifts, loaders and other specialized equipment to stabilize, reposition or transfer cargo. Once the load is properly secured, the truck or trailer can be prepared for continued transport, towing or recovery.

When a Load Shifts, Safe Travel Comes to a Stop
Cargo can move during sudden braking, sharp turns, an accident or travel over uneven roads. Improper loading, damaged securement equipment and changes in cargo weight distribution can also cause a load to become unstable.
Continuing to drive with shifted cargo may affect steering, braking and trailer stability. It can also place additional stress on the trailer, axles and securement equipment. Our team evaluates the load and coordinates the equipment needed to correct the problem.
Load Shift Service May Be Needed When:
- Cargo has moved during transport
- A trailer is leaning or unstable
- Weight is distributed unevenly across the axles
- Freight has fallen or collapsed inside a trailer
- Cargo securement has failed
- A load has shifted following an accident
- A trailer has been damaged or overturned
- A load must be transferred to another vehicle
Commercial Load Shift Correction
Load shift correction involves carefully repositioning cargo to restore proper balance and stability. Depending on the freight and trailer configuration, this may require lifting, pulling, sliding or unloading portions of the cargo before it can be arranged and secured again.
Our operators develop a plan based on the cargo, its weight, the condition of the trailer and the available working area. Rotators, winches, forklifts or loaders may be used individually or together to complete the work.
Load Correction May Include:
- Repositioning shifted freight
- Redistributing weight within a trailer
- Adjusting cargo to address axle-weight concerns
- Uprighting fallen pallets or equipment
- Removing damaged freight
- Restoring access to trailer doors
- Supporting cargo resecurement
- Preparing the vehicle for continued transport
Cargo Transfer Services
When a trailer is damaged, disabled or unsafe to continue traveling, its cargo may need to be transferred to another trailer or transport vehicle. Goch & Sons Towing can coordinate the equipment and personnel needed to move freight from the affected vehicle to a replacement.
Cargo transfers may be completed at accident scenes, loading facilities, truck yards or other suitable locations. The transfer plan depends on the cargo type, vehicle condition, available space and equipment required.
A Cargo Transfer May Be Required Following:
- A commercial vehicle accident
- A tractor-trailer rollover
- Trailer structural damage
- Mechanical or refrigeration failure
- A rejected or overweight load
- Shifted or unstable cargo
- A trailer breakdown
- An emergency requiring immediate freight removal
Load Shifts After Accidents and Rollovers
Commercial vehicle accidents and rollovers frequently leave cargo scattered, compressed or positioned against the sides and doors of a trailer. The load may need to be stabilized or removed before the vehicle can be uprighted and towed.
Our heavy recovery team can coordinate vehicle stabilization, cargo handling, load transfer and towing as part of the overall recovery operation. This provides trucking companies, fleet managers and public agencies with one experienced team managing the incident from recovery through transport.

Every cargo problem is different. Goch & Sons Towing maintains a range of lifting, recovery and material-handling equipment that can be deployed based on the load and location.
